John C. Havens is the Global Director for The IEEE Planet Positive 2030 Program, which produced the compendium “Strong Sustainability by Design: Prioritizing Ecosystem and Human Flourishing with Technology-Based Solutions.” This work inspired the creation of the IEEE 7800 Standards Series focused on sustainability. He is also the Founding Executive Director of The IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, responsible for creating “Ethically Aligned Design: A Vision for Prioritizing Human Well-being with Autonomous and Intelligent Systems.” This document has been utilized by organizations such as the United Nations, the OECD, and IBM to develop their AI principles and policies. John has authored books including “Heartificial Intelligence: Embracing Our Humanity to Maximize Machines” and “Hacking Happiness: Why Your Personal Data Counts and How Tracking It Can Change the World.” His writings have appeared in publications like Mashable and The Guardian. Previously, John served as an Executive Vice President of Social Media at Porter Novelli, collaborating with clients such as Gillette, HP, and Merck. He also had a 15-year career as a professional actor, appearing in principal roles on Broadway, television, and film.
